About Successionly

When someone dies or can’t speak for themselves, the people they love are left searching. Successionly makes sure they know where to look.

Why We Exist

Most families aren’t short of information. It’s all somewhere: a will with a solicitor, a pension from a job twenty years ago, a life policy in a drawer, every password in an app nobody else can open. What they’re short of is a map.

Without one, grief comes with months of detective work: phoning banks, hunting through paperwork, guessing at passwords, and wondering what was missed. Successionly exists so that doesn’t happen to the people you love.

What Successionly Does

You write down where things are and who to contact, in plain words. You choose which of your trusted contacts can see each record: now, later, or never. You can leave video and voice messages too.

If something happens to you, your contacts get your instructions and a step-by-step guide to what to do next, written for where you live. If you’re simply unwell or away, you stay in control: nothing is released without warning you first.

Safe by Design

Most services protect your valuables by locking them away. We protect them by never having them.

  • No secrets. We never hold passwords, PINs, account numbers or copies of your documents. Successionly refuses them if you try.
  • Not even your address. We don’t ask for your home address. So a note like “the documents are in the living room cabinet, top drawer” means everything to your nearest and dearest, and nothing to anyone else.
  • Only the people you choose. Your records reach the people you pick, when you decide, and no one else.

Everything you send us travels over encrypted connections, and it’s stored encrypted on Cloudflare’s network, the same infrastructure that protects a large share of the world’s websites. On top of that, your records, trusted contacts and activity are encrypted again inside Successionly, with a key unique to your account that’s kept separately from the database: a copy of the database on its own would be unreadable. Our own admin tools are built so they can’t show your records.

No system can promise to be unbreakable, and we won’t pretend otherwise. That’s exactly why we designed Successionly the way we did. In the unlikely event that anyone ever broke in, they’d find directions with no destination: no passwords, no account numbers, no address. If we never hold your secrets, nobody can steal them from us.

What We Believe

  • A map, not a vault. We’d rather hold nothing worth stealing than promise to guard it.
  • You decide. Every record, every person, every time. Our own admin tools can’t show your records.
  • Plain English. No jargon, no legal small print in the product itself. It should be easy on a hard day.
  • Kind to the people left behind. Being a trusted contact is always free.
